1/2-OZ or ~700 heirloom non-GMO Sakurajima Mammoth Daikon seeds 鹿児島县櫻島さくらじま大根; giant white radish. Germination rate 85%; tested 06/2021Guinness world record is 31.1KG (68lb 9oz) from Kagoshima Sakurajima daikon contest held in 2003.Average harvest size 10-15 lb is likely. For good eating, harvest at 5-8 lbs would be ideal. As novelty home garden crop, with good nutrients good moisture and cool weather, some whoppers could reach 20-30 lbs range. Please share your crop joy picture with me, and it may show up on future seed listings, with your permission of course!Either sow the seeds in early spring or late summer. Direct sowing onto well worked soil, as seedling transplant may result in transition shock. So try plant them in a small “hill” about 8-12” apart and rows should be 3-ft apart. Place 3-4 seeds in a hill cover with 1/2” soil. Thin them out after 3 weeks. Mature in 85-90 days.Good for cooking or pickling. Note this giant daikon is not suited for long term storage. Don’t be disappointed if the outer part become pithy, as inner part is still crisp & juicy. Nothing gone wasted, as the whole radish is edible: the leaf section, the top root section, middle root section & the bottom root section. Google recipes for each section.Lots of novelty fun yet good eating radish that will impress your neighbors or 4H county fair competitions.
