1000+ seeds of Love Lies Bleeding Amaranth, Amaranthus caudatus - open-pollinated grown without herbicides or pesticides. One of the most unique versions of amaranth, with it's long red seeds tassels/panicles that look like fuzzy hanging ropes. This was a ancient staple food for the Mayans and Aztecs. An annual, that varies in height between 3-6 feet tall when fully grown. Prefers warmer weather, transplant outdoors or direct sow once temperatures remain above 50 degrees F. Grows from central stem, that will form red flowers in summer/fall. One plant can easily produce many thousands of seeds, which can be then used as a edible grain, harvest grain when red color fades and seeds start falling. The young plant leaves can also be harvested to be eat as a green or in salads, Amaranth leaves are high in Vitamin A, C, K, folate, calcium and potassium. Younger leaves are better testing and more tender. To get larger plants, plant in full sun and water regularly when dry. Plants grown in shade will only grow 2-3 feet tall.
