NOTE: I try to keep the cost with free shipping on small seed orders as low as possible by using first class letter mail without tracking. It works well, but sometimes is a little slow and very occasionally they don't show up at all. In order to be able to keep using this low cost service on Ebay, PLEASE do not open a case if you do not receive the seed order. There is no way for me to provide tracking for an open case, and they punish me for USPS mail failures. JUST MESSAGE ME DIRECTLY and let me know you haven't received them, and I'll resend them out for you. Look for the seeds (unless you pay for first class package with tracking) in your regular letter mail in a white envelope with a butterfly or flower sticker on it. Choose From 50 to 500 Seeds ASCLEPIAS INCARNATA~. Pink Swamp Milkweed Fresh Seeds, cold stratified; ready to plant This is definitely my favorite of the Milkweeds that I have grown so far. It has beautiful bushy vibrant pink blossoms, that later turn into large spikey seed containers that are also very beautiful, in late summer to early autumn. The plants have sturdy woody stalks and long, spear shaped leaves. Just a few new plants planted together in a grouping will turn into a large, bushy, spectacular jungle of milkweed within a year or two. It sometimes blooms in the first year if given it's favored conditions, which are LOTS of sun, and lots of water! Hence the name "swamp" weed, it prefers boggy, marshy conditions and does NOT like to dry out. In fact, the foliage will turn yellow and it will drop its leaves if the soil dries out. So if you have these in pots, make sure you water them DAILY, and sometimes more than once a day. But if you make sure they get plenty of both sun and water, they will put on a great show for you. With their spectacularly beautiful blooms, and heights of around 4' or more....sometimes as much as 5', they alone are fun to look at. Add to that the flurry of activity you get from all the bees and butterflies who adore the blossoms, and if you're lucky, you'll have Monarch Caterpillars happily munching away at the leaves, all the way up until late fall, when the foliage turns a beautiful yellowish gold color before the leaves drop off and leave just bare stalks that can be pruned down to ground level (I like to wait until early spring to do this though). It is truly a wonderful plant. And if that wasn't good enough on it's own, LIKE the Butterfly Weed (Asclepias Tuberosa), the roots of the Pink Swamp Milkweed are also medicinal. In fact, it too is also known as "pleurisy root" in native cultures. It's indications are much the same as the Orange Butterfly weed. I have copied this info below from the botanical.com website. ** NOTE that it states here that it blooms in July and August however, mine began blooming in June** -"--Description---A herb growing in wet places, flowering in the United States in July and August. Stem erect, smooth, with two downy lines above, about 2 1/2 feet high, branched above, very leafy; leaves opposite, petiolate, oblong, lanceolate, hairy, acute, cordate at base, 4 to 7 inches long, 1 to 2 inches wide; flowers rose-purple, fragrant, disposed in terminal-crowded umbels two to six on a peduncle 2 inches long, consisting of ten to twenty small flowers; pods smooth; rhizome oblong, 1 inch in diameter, knotty, surrounded with rootlets, 4 to 6 inches long, yellow-brown externally, white internally; bark thin, wood with fine medullary rays. The roots exudes a milky juice with a heavy odour, which is lost in drying. Swamp Milkweed strengthens the heart in the same way as digitalis and is a quick and certain diuretic. It is given in dropsy as a diuretic in place of digitalis, also in coughs, colds, rheumatism from cold, threatened inflammation of the lungs. Also in diarrhoea, gastric catarrh, certain skin eruptions of an erysipelatous nature and in asthma and dyspnoea. It may also be used with advantage in the early stages of dysentery. It acts as a vermifuge in doses of 10 to 20 grams. ---Preparations and Dosages---Specific Swamp Milkweed, 1 to 20 minims. The infusion is made of 1/2 OZ. of the powdered root to a pint of boiling water. Dose of the powder, 15 to 60 grains." Plants spread by RHIZOMES and can be divided in early spring. They also have a LOT of seeds that blow away on large fluffy kites that look like very large dandelion puffs. PLANTING INFO: ZONES: 3-6 DIFFICULTLY: Medium PLANTING TIMES: Late Fall for outdoor planting; indoor planting before first frost requires cold stratification of seeds PLANTING DEPTH: Close to surface, barely covered; require sunlight MOISTURE: Consistent, even moisture of planting medium or soil until germinated TEMPERATURE: Soil temps of 65 to 70 degrees F needed for germination.
