This is the most popular variety of butternut squash, since is its uniform in shape and size with a tastier and more consistent interior texture than older varieties. The vines of Waltham Butternut Squash are vigorous and require ample space, but they are also extremely high yielding. These fruits can be picked young and cooked with the rind on like a summer squash, or they can be allowed to mature up to 6 pounds and will keep well into the winter. Waltham Butternut Squash is extremely tasty and versatile in the kitchen. The flavor is creamy and rich with a slight nuttiness that compliments a variety of meals. Slice mature fruits in half and roast in the oven plain or stuffed.
