Euphorbia lathyris (caper spurge) is a herb with green-yellow flowers and thin narrow leaves found in the coastal ranges, western ranges, the Central Valley, and desert ranges of California. Other names occasionally used include gopher spurge, gopher plant or mole plant. It is native to Europe. It occurs in grasslands, marshes, dunes, scrub and chaparral habitats. It spreads via seed and is dispersed by water, machinery and dumped garden waste. An annual/biennial growing to 1 3ft +. It is hardy to zone 5-9. It is in flower from May to June, and the seeds ripen from July to August. The species is monoecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but both sexes can be found on the same plant) and is pollinated by Flies.A seed is a live product which depends on many important related grower skills such as proper planting time, seed depth, type of soil, irrigation, proper use of fertilizers, weed controls, fungicides, insecticides, disease free soil, and reasonable weather conditions during the growing period. Germination is affected by such factors as temperature, moisture content, light intensity and contamination of planting media. These factors are totally out of my control and are your responsibility and risk. Consequentially, I cannot unconditionally guarantee seed to perform properly regardless of conditions or the buyer’s methods or mistakes. Thank you. Seed Orders: Germination instructions will be shipped with order.

2023 EUPHORBIA, GOPHER PLANT PERENNIAL, 15 SEEDS UPRIGHT MYRTLE/SILVER SPURGE 01

2023 EUPHORBIA / GOPHER PLANT PERENNIAL UPRIGHT MYRTLE / SILVER SPURGE PLANT & FLOWER SEEDS (15 SEEDS) (01) The perennial euphorbia (Euphorbia rigida) is most commonly known in our area as “gopher plant.” With its thick silver leaves spiraling up branches that may also creep along the ground, it creates an architecturally interesting shape in the garden, even before flowering. Blooms start reliably appearing in late winter and last throughout spring. The true gopher flower is quite small and creamy yellow; however, it is held with large chartreuse bracts. This makes for a very showy arrangement. The term “bracts” refers to modified leaves growing just below the flower or cluster of flowers. On some gopher plants, the leaves will take on a blush of pink, providing additional color. They can be especially eye-catching spilling over a wall or in a vivid ceramic container. A native of South Africa, gopher plants thrive throughout the Mediterranean, Morocco to Portugal, Turkey, and Iran. This euphorbia is cold hardy down to 10 degrees, so has survived our past winter in fine shape. It also adapts to the desert heat and is drought tolerant. Gopher plants can be planted directly into the ground or propagated by seed or cuttings. They do best in sandy, rocky, well-drained soil, often not surviving in heavy, wet soil. Planting in full sun is acceptable, preferably with light afternoon shade. 2 Feet Tall Gopher Plant are extremely hardy, handling hot full day sun to freezing temperatures in the winter. These plants are quick growers reaching upwards of 3 feet wide by 2 feet tall. Shipped with USPS First Class
