Midnight Tiger – striking and boldly-flavored new variety from J&L Gardens
The newest development in blue tomatoes is this beauty just out of our breeding program. I don’t think I have ever seen colors this intense on a tomato. It is striped with iridescent green and copper on a deep mahogany background and draped in black from the stem end. The plant is a strong and healthy 5 foot indeterminate which sets a huge flush of these fruits. The interior is multicolored red and green. We will send 40+ seeds by first class mail in a padded envelope.
Farthest North Cherry Tomato
The plants bear red-orange cherries with good flavor. The plant is quite small, barely reaching. It would work well in a container, I think.
Andean Bush Bean – productive rose-colored pinto bean
These beautiful coral pinto bean set abundantly on sturdy bush plants. It is certainly one of the best bush beans I’ve tried in recent years.
Tesuque Blue Corn – from the Pueblo of Tesuque
Tesuque Blue was offered at the annual seed blessing and exchange in the spring. The medium tall, very stout stalks bear two 10″ ears with kernels of a deep violet blue. Tight husks and longer flags keep bugs at bay, though I did put a drop or two of mineral oil on the silks early. The pueblo of Tesuque is just north of Santa Fe and is a beautiful place. The corn makes a wonderful ornamental, but here it is ground for meal and made into flavorful tortillas. Grow a taste of Northern New Mexico in your garden this summer. I’ll send about an ounce of seed to U.S. addresses which will plant a 12×12 foot block. (no international sales)
