Solanum aviculare can be an annual shrub or Tender perennial in the Solanaceae family. A native to the Australian east coast and New Zealand. Some common names are New Zealand nightshade, kangaroo apple, pam plum, or poroporo. It can grow to 12 feet tall in New Zealand but is commonly seen around 6 feet tall and wide. The leaves are long about a foot long, with some spikes running up the ribs. The flowers have both male and female parts, making them hermaphrodite flowers. It blooms from late spring until mid-summer and prefers full sun to part shade. It can grow in most soils that are well-drained.
