Leaves start out green, then turn purple/red as the season progresses. Slow to bolt. Prefers full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. 30-50 days. Direct seed outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked. Sprinkle seeds onto prepared beds or rows and cover with a layer of soil. Choose a location that gets full sun to partial shade in soil that is rich and well-drained. Keep evenly moist until seedlings emerge, usually within a week or two. Thin seedlings to 8" apart when they a few sets of true leaves. Lettuce requires even moisture during the growing season and are heavy nitrogen feeders. Sow every 2 weeks for a continuous crop.
