Miscanthus sinensis Chinese Silver Grass is a herbaceous perennial grass in the Poaceae family. Some names include Chinese Silver Grass and Maiden Silvergrass. A native to eastern Asia, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. It usually grows up to 7 feet tall but on rare occasions, it has been seen growing 14 feet tall. Slender leaves with the flowers being a light purple in late summer to early fall. This plant is home to the nesting of some species of paper wasps like the Ropalidia fasciata. Grown in regular soil with drainage. It prefers full sun to part shade. Zones 5-9 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot.
