Lobelia puberula is a herbaceous perennial in the Campanulaceae family. Its native range is central and eastern United States. Familiar names include Blue Lobelia and Downy Lobelia. In the Bellflower family, this wildflower loves moist soils. It can grow to around 3-4 feet tall and 1-2 feet wide. The leaves have toothed margins and opposite. The flowers are light blue to dark blue five-lobed and in bloom from July until October. Birds, Bees, and Butterflies will visit. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade and even in light shade full time. Zones 4-9 Germination Mix equal parts of potting soil, vermiculite, and peat moss. Press seeds down into the media. Spread some long-fibered sphagnum moss on top of the potting media. Mist with a spray bottle. Uncover and mist as needed to keep the media moist. Cover the seed tray with clear plastic to maintain a 64-75F. Place under a bright indirect light until germination.
