Lilium amabile var. luteum is a bulbous perennial in the Liliaceae family. It grows 3 to 4 feet tall and just 10 inches wide on the bottom. This species is said to have come about from Holland by wild seeds growing amongst the amabile species. It has been used to make famous flowers such as the Mid-Century Hybrids like Enchantment and Fiesta Hybrids. They can grow in moist, well-drained soils. Locate it in light shade for blooms that appear in late spring until mid-summer. Zones 5-10 Germination Keep lily seeds frozen in a tightly sealed plastic bag until you are ready to sow. Sow seeds 1/2' deep into the soil and keep moist in a sunny location. Germination occurs in 3-4 weeks. You will have strong plants with mature stems in 3 years.
