Showy milkweed is an herbaceous perennial native to the western half of North America. It serves as an important plant for pollinators as well as being a host plant for monarch butterfly larvae. Its unique, broad leaves and spherical flower umbels can add interesting shapes and colors of green and pink to your garden. These plants can thrive in mesic or xeric conditions and are very drought tolerant after being established for two or three years. Will usually flower during second or third year. Can flower as early as May and late as September depending on climate and altitude. The plant will die back and sprout from the root in the spring. To prevent reseeding, remove the fruits before they dry and dehisce. USDA COLD HARDINESS ZONE 3 Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa) Apocynaceae - *I offer combined $4.00 shipping for multiple items.
