Also known as Leather-leaf Maple . Broadleaf evergreen (or semi-evergreen) shrub or tree, often more or less shrubby in cultivation but may form a tree to a height of 50 ft (15 m) in its habitat. Bark blackish gray or blackish brown. Leaves opposite, simple, ovate-oblong or rarely lanceolate, 8-12 × 3-5 cm, leathery, base broadly wedge shaped (cuneate) or rarely obtuse . Fruit (samara) brownish yellow, tomentose when young, slightly so when mature, wing including nutlet about 3-5 cm long, wings spreading obtusely or acutely. Hardy to USDA Zone 8 - (10 to +20 F) Native to subtropical forests in central and south eastern China. Acer coriaceifolium is sometimes named Acer cinnamomifolium, as well as being regarded as a var. of Acer oblongum .
