The pale-green, low-growing plant produces spiked purple flowers that are a favorite of honeybees and other pollinators. While often grown for flavoring meats, soups, and oils, Sweet Marjoram has also been used in traditional herbal medicine to soothe runny noses and coughs, and to aid in digestion. Start indoors in early spring, and consider using a heat mat to maintain a constant soil temperature of 60°F for best results. Seeds are delicate and dust-like, and must be sowed directly on the surface of damp soil. Be sure not to bury them! Light is required (either a grow light or simply place your seeds trays on a windowsill) for germination, which should occur within 7 to 14 days depending on soil temperature. Plant spreads easily.
