Test Black Beauty Tomato Check out our other listings! Black Beauty is an open-pollinated tomato variety originally bred by Brad Gates of Napa, California and is the result of crossing the Pink Berkeley Tie Dye and Indigo Apple varieties. Indeterminate vines grow to around 5 feet in height and produce large, 6 to 12 ounce fruits whose dark, blue-black skin and deep, raspberry-red flesh is truly stunning. Flavor is rich, savory, and wonderfully earthy, making Black Beauty an immediate favorite of nearly everyone who tries it. Start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frost, sowing the seeds 1/8 inch deep in a seed flat or cell tray. Use a heat mat to keep the soil temperature between 70 to 75°F and a humidity dome to ensure the soil stays moist between watering. Germination should occur within 6 to 8 days. 80 days to maturity.
