Aquilegia canadensis is a herbaceous perennial in the Ranunculaceae family. Common names include wild columbine, Canadian, eastern red columbine, or Canada columbine. A native to eastern North America. It grows to 18″ tall and 12″ wide. It has fern-like leaves at the base and on each stem. The flowers are 1-2″ long, hanging down. The color combination is beautiful with the red and yellow flowers and the dark green foliage. They come out in late Spring and stay around until mid-summer with a sweet scent. Birds, bees, and butterflies will visit. It grows in most soils well-drained with full sun to partial shade being its sun exposure. Zones 3-8 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 70-75F.
