Up for sale Laxton’s #1 Red Currant, 1 rooted plant 2-4″ tall, 1 year old. Shipped with roots wrapped in wet media, dormant (October through April), potted up in plastic container during vegetation (April-September) Laxton No.1 is a traditional old variety that’s very widely grown. Produces a heavy crop of excellent quality fruits which are borne in long bunches, perfect for easy picking. The attractive, glossy currants are bright red in colour and very flavoursome, ideal for summer puddings, Redcurrant jams, wine-making and freezing. Flowers are produced quite late in the Spring therby avoids late frost damage. The most mildew resistant variety, very strong growing and reliable. Redcurrant Growing Tips: Plant in a sheltered site, out of strong winds and frost. They do best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Plant in any soil type, as long as it’s well-drained.
