Pennyroyal (Mentha Pulegium), perennial to zone 6 through 9 otherwise grown as an annual, is in the mint family and will spread by leaf nodes laying on the ground. It will sprout roots there and make a ‘new’ plant. It develops purple flowers mid to late summer. It grows 8 to 12 inches tall and likes full sun to part shade. The seed may be started either indoors, six to eight weeks before your last frost, or sprinkle them early spring outdoors.
