Allium macropetalum is a perennial bulb in the Alliaceae family. A native to desert regions in the Southwestern part of the United States and northwestern Mexico. It grows to 6-12 inches tall in full sun. It prefers dry soil with rocks and sand incorporated. The beautiful bell-shaped flowers come out in March to June with colors ranging from off-white to purple in bunches of 5-25 depending upon your soil and sun exposure. The flowers’ antlers are yellow or purple.  The entire plant is edible and has a fragrance of onion. Zones 4-8 Germination Mix seeds and moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 60 days. Soak seeds for 12 hours. Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost and cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light and keep moist. Seeds may germinate slowly.
