I just foraged these seeds from an American or Common persimmon tree (Diospyros virginiana) in Maryland. It is a cold hardy plant, found in zones 4-9. When ripe, the fruit of this wild persimmon is very sweet, and taste is reminiscent of the flavor of dates. Wild persimmons are a totally organic fall food source for birds and mammals–like deer and people fortunate enough to find them!
