Penstemon spectabilis is a Tender perennial in the Plantaginaceae family. A native to Southern California and the Baja. It grows in the mountain ranges and woodlands. It grows to about 3 feet tall with narrow serrated leaves. The flowers are a purple-blue color with a wide mouth. The throat of the flowers is a lighter color, such as light purple to almost white. It prefers sandy soils with rocks mixed in. It prefers full sun and will bloom in mid-summer. The plant is deer resistant but is visited by birds, bees, and hummingbirds. Zones 8-10 Germination Mix seeds and moistened soil together in a ziplock bag. Write the name on the bag. Place in the refrigerator for 30 days.  Sow seeds into a well-drained, sandy compost and cover seeds to their own depth with sand or grit. Place the seed tray in bright light and keep moist. Seeds may germinate slowly.
