Sabal tamaulipas 50 Seeds 2024 Harvest

I don’t believe they are simply a form of sabal minor. These are quite different from Sabal minor. They will form a short trunk that eventually begins to creep across the ground. S.tamaulipas can reach around 9 to 10 feet tall and grow quite fast for a Sabal.

Sabal sp. ‘DeFuniak Springs’ Seeds – An Unusual, Unidentified Sabal Palm

Sabal sp. ‘DeFuniak Springs is a large, unidentified Sabal palm located in the town with the same name. Nobody is certain exactly what species it is, other than NOT Sabal palmetto. It hasn’t grown much in the past 30 years. Some folks think it’s a Sabal x brazoriensis, or possibly related to Sabal bermudana, but its identity may never actually be known. It has a thick, heavy trunk (like S. bermudana) and the crown more closely resembles Sabal minor var. louisiana or brazoriensis. Speculation is that it is a hybrid, possibly between S. minor and S. palmetto (which is actually what S. x brazoriensis is). Whatever it is, I have FRESH seeds collected in November of 2024. The last time I was here was 2 years ago. Seeds from this very palm have been proven to have over a 90% germination rate after well over one year, and they probably can stay viable for well over 2 years if stored correctly. I am pleased to be able to offer these seeds again this year. They are guaranteed to be what the title says they are because I collected them myself. I have over 20 years experience with growing palms and collecting seeds. I don’t offer seeds from anything that I am unsure of. Germination of Sabal is pretty simple. Just give them some good bottom heat and keep the media moist and they should start popping in a few weeks. Some people start them in community pots outside in the spring and transplant later (don’t wait too long to transplant or you’ll have a tangled mess of roots that will not be fun to work with!!!).

Sabal minor ‘Blountstown Dwarf’

Sabal minor ‘Blountstown Dwarf’ is a dwarf variety of Dwarf Palmetto! I know, I know..it’s already “Dwarf Palmetto”, so shouldn’t this be called “Dwarf Dwarf Palmetto”? I think that’s too redundant. But it does need to be distinguished from a regular Dwarf Palmetto because of its true dwarf status! This variety is found throughout North Florida and into the panhandle (around Blountstown!). There are others called “Wakulla Dwarf’ and ‘Chipola Dwarf’, but they’re all essentially the same thing.
