80-90 days to maturity. Luffa acutangula ’Buab Moom’. Buab Moom Gourd Seeds. Non-GMO, warm-season, annual, hybrid. This hybrid ridge gourd is highly productive and vigorous. The fruit is green in color, growing up to 19 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter. The gourds weigh approximately 0.5 lb. To fully mature, Luffa gourds demand a lengthy growing season. Let the gourds dry on the plant to grow your sponge! Try growing over an arched trellis for visual appeal. Other Common Names: Luffa plant, Chinese okra, si gua, silk gourd, lin jiao si gua, edible luffa, you lin si gua, sze kwa, see kwa, hechima, or luffa gourd. How to Grow Buab Moom GourdGerminate seeds by soaking them in warm water for 24hrs and then placing them on a moist paper towel in a dark container. In northern climates, this plant must be cultivated in a greenhouse. In conditions where greenhouse cucumbers can be grown, these gourds prefer it even a tad warmer! Luffa Gourds do not like being transplanted; get the seedlings to their growing site quickly. Buab Moom Luffa Gourd loves a trellis to climb up throughout the growing season. It provides air circulation to avoid diseases and create uniform fruits. Supply abundant nitrogen in the soil with fertilizer, compost, or a nitrogen fixator intercrop (such as yard-long beans). Prune the plant periodically to have one vertical vine. In conditions with a long enough growing season, remove the first few blooms and allow the plant additional time to establish before fruiting. Harvesting Buab Moom GourdFor consumption, harvest the gourds when they are firm, bright green, and 4-6 inches long. For shower luffa harvest, leave the gourds on the plant until they are brown and dry. Then, break open the skin and shake out the seeds.

This Spanish Onion is relatively easy to grow with moderate pink root tolerance. How to Grow Utah Yellow Sweet Spanish Onion from SeedOnion is a cool hardy vegetable that can be sown directly 6-8 weeks prior to final spring frost or about 4-6 weeks before the first autumn frost. Seeds may also be begun indoors for early starts. Soil should be well-tilled, nitrogen-rich, with a pH of 6.0-7.0. For outdoor sowing, create a shallow 1 inch deep trench for a minimum of 12″.Onion seed is very small, so sprinkle generously into the trench and lightly cover with about 0.25 inches of soil. As seedlings begin to sprout from the row, trim back to favor the strongest starts every 4-6″ apart. “Long-day” onions grow best in the northern half of the country while “short-day” thrives in the southern half.Utah Spanish Onions take about 115 days to mature after planting seeds in the ground. Wait until the ground is not frozen, and is between 60-85°. Onions thrive in soil that drains well but still needs to be dense in nutrients. As the onion grows, you will see green sprouts appear. Allow the tops of onions to fall and die before harvesting your crop. If any bulbs are too small to be consumed they can be saved and planted next year. A mature Utah Yellow Spanish Onion will have light brown skin and white flesh.
