Lilium martagon var. pilosiusculum is a 9-species perennial in the Liliaceae family. Its native range is in Russia. It was first discovered in 1890, and this L. martagon is endemic to the Urals and Siberia into the Lena region and Mongolia. It is found scattered in grasslands and mainly growing in wooded thickets. It is reported that grazing animals and plant collectors have nearly eradicated this rare species as well as being harvested as food. It can grow to around 4 feet tall and 15" wide with purple-streaked stems. The leaves are whorled and lanceolate. The flowers are nodding and have red-purple spotting. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with little water needs. Zones 3-10 Germination Keep lily seeds frozen in a tightly sealed plastic bag until you are ready to sow.  Sow seeds 1/2' deep into the soil and keep moist in a sunny location. Germination occurs in 3-4 weeks. You will have vigorous plants with mature stems in 3 years.
